Strike one Hobby Lobby

Before I started reading blogs, I had never heard of Hobby Lobby. We don't have one close by and if I need fabric or craft supplies I go to Joann's, Michael's or AC Moore (AC Moore > Michael's imo). But of course, I think the grass is always greener and I really wanted to find a Hobby Lobby. A craft store I haven't been to?? It's probably amazing!!

As luck would have it, my parents recently moved to Winchester, VA - about an hour and twenty minutes away. And what do they have in Winchester???

HOBBY LOBBY.

I probably wouldn't make an hour and a half trip just to go to Hobby Lobby but if I'm out there to visit my parents anyway, might as well pop in!

Yesterday I drove out to have lunch with my parents, check out their new home and see what Hobby Lobby was all about. I'm such a craft store nerd I was actually chanting "HOBBY LOBBY! HOBBY LOBBY!" as we drove up to the store.

EeeeeEEEEEeeeeee!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Closed on Sundays?????????? Boooo!!!

Strike one Hobby Lobby.....strike one.

Do any of you go to Hobby Lobby? Am I getting my hopes up too much?

  2. Should have called me--Hobby Lobby has a policy that their employees have Sunday off for Church and family time. That said I'm not much into crafts (as you can tell by my house), but I much prefer Hobby Lobby to Michael's--better luck next time.

  3. I hate when places are closed on Sundays and you don't know about it. I especially hate Chik-Fil-A since Sunday is about the only day I ever want their food.

I have never been to a Hobby Lobby either. The closest one to me is about 90 minutes away, and I'd never just be in the area.

PS - I prefer Michael's to AC Moore, although I have no idea why.

  4. I think the only thing I've gotten in Hobby Lobby is cabinet/drawer knobs, and even then I don't always find what I want. And they're always closed on Sunday when I want to go look for something. So... you're not missing much. At least not in my opinion.

    1. Yeah maybe it's one of those places that's hit or miss? I'm hoping they have some interesting fabric options - I've looked over the stuff at Joann's a hundred times.

    2. Yeah, I think it can be hit or miss. Good luck with fabric options!

  5. I love Hobby Lobby! It's bigger than Michael's and has fabric, and it's usually cheaper than Joann! I bought most of our Christmas stuff from Hobby Lobby in December and it was all 50% off.

  6. Hobby Lobby is the crafty smafty mecca of the midwest. It's my go to even though there is a Michaels and a Jo-Ann's just around the corner. Try again on a saturday! They have hella sales too!

  7. Hobby Lobby not only carries crafts galore but contains a large selection of decorator items as well! No special trip needed, but worth a visit next time you are at your parents on a Saturday!

  8. I have really wondered about Hobby Lobby! Seems like everyone is mentioning scoring something wonderful there in blog land! Sounds like my luck, I would have been equally pumped to arrive and bummed to find it closed!

  9. Hobby Lobby is the best! The nearest one to me is in NH - about an hour and 15 minutes away - but it's absolutely worth it! I have a blogging date with a blogger friend next Saturday and we're heading up early, grabbing breakfast, and then shopping! The store is ginormous, and it's like Michael's, HomeGoods and JoAnn's all rolled into one! You should definitely head back the next time you have a chance - it's definitely worth it!

  10. Here we have Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Joann's, too. I prefer Hobby Lobby for most things since they seem to have a larger selection of items but Joann's is my go-to for fabric. I only go to Michael's because it's closer and I don't always feel like driving all the way to the other store.
I definitely say you should give Hobby Lobby another chance!! And sign up for their coupons - they always have awesome sales.

  11. Oh mannnnnnnnnnnn! How disappointing! Grrrrrrrrrrr. I've never been...we don't have those by me. I go to Michael's or Joanne Fabrics too.

  12. I had the same fascination as you -- all the "HL" talk but none near me! Frustration!!! Finally, in FL this winter made a trip---what a waste of gas! There was nothing there worth anything or even well priced. Give me TJ or Home Goods any day!!

  13. Boo Hiss on HL...I don't like a number of things there...closed on Sundays, have an antiquated check out system that drives me crazy...seriously, it's something out of the 60's that system is, cashiers pecking in prices and looking up sale prices on a piece of paper, ridiculous!
They do not support local schools, only one coupon per person per day (teacher or not). I had it out with the manager on that one. Ack! Don't get me started. So that being said, I only go there on the 6th Sunday of every other month...(never).
