Off topic

I'm going to have to go off topic to talk about what I saw today.

I've seen some amazing things in my life.

Here are some examples of things I have seen (aka commence brag fest)...

Bagan, Myanmar

 Obama Inauguration
--love him or hate him, it was an awesome thing to see--

Landing Beaches and Cemetery, Normandy, France

Omaha Beach

And today....

It was so exciting to stand outside in a huge group of people, all staring at the sky, waiting to see the shuttle. Even more exciting that we didn't know exactly where it would come from or when.

Then someone yelled "There it is!"

And it was CLOSE. Not a little blip in the sky - skimming the tops of buildings close.

Not only was it amazing because of the historical significance. It was amazing because it's just so unbelievable. It looks like something someone dreamed up in photoshop.

A spaceship bolted to a jumbo jet???

Escorted by a fighter jet??????

Mind. Blown.

Breathtaking, goosebumps, once in a lifetime.

And sadly, never again.

Landing at Dulles airport...

Anyone else see the shuttle?

What's the most amazing thing you have ever seen? What's the craziest place you've ever been?

  1. Wow being at Obama's inauguration must have been amazing, we watched it on TV and I remember the hope everyone felt!! Sydney Harbour on New Years Eve was pretty amazing as was Uluru. Craziest place i have been is probably Accra in Ghana (West Africa) on New Years Eve - awesome fun :-) xox

  2. You've been to some incredible places! I got to see Clinton's first inauguration - and that was incredible - but I've also gotten to see salmon spawning in Alaska, the black beaches in Hawaii and, my favorite, climbing to the top of Mt. Vesuvius in Italy overlooking Pompeii. I'm definitely so jealous you've been to Myanmar! Josh and I are hoping to plan a trip to Asia in the next couple of years!

  3. I have a bunch of friends that live in DC and saw a ton of pictures of it. It must have been amazing!

I saw Obama speak in Wilmington, DE on Super Tuesday. It was amazing to see and hear him speak while he was running for election.

    1. Inauguration was awesome but we could only see him on big screens and could only tell what he was saying because there were subtitles - Super Tuesday was probably much better!

  4. Awesome! I did get to see a shuttle launch while we were in Florida one time.. and that was neat. Aside from that, I'm not sure! I got to spend some time in Guam.. and I spent one New Years in Tokyo! But after looking at your pics, I feel like I need to add to my bucket list!

  5. Super cool! Look at you all well-traveled. Do you know how mad I am at myself for living 2 hours away from Cape Canaveral and NEVER going up for a shuttle launch? Grrrr.

Most awesome things I've seen- I went cage diving with great white sharks in South Africa. Amazing. I was also in London last year for William and Kate's wedding which was definitely a sight to behold!

    1. Sharks are one of my biggest fears!!! That must have been completely insane. Do they seem less scary to you now? I was also totally gaga over that wedding - so cool that you were there!

  6. Wow! I'm so jealous of all that you've seen and done! Disney World is about as exciting as it gets for me, but Jesse and I are saving up for a 2 week trip to Europe next summer! We plan on going to a futbol game in Scotland, seeing London, Normandy, Paris and then ending in Germany.
