Ok I'll actually start with a smaller one.
This guy...
One brass and glass coffee table courtesy of Craigslist. I know most people reading this will probably hate it....a year ago I would have hated it too. But after going on an interior design blog binge for the last six months, I'm in love with all things brass. This 80s goodness is back!
Living Etc. via Decor Pad
This was also a great find because it was only $40 - the rest of the brass and glass tables on Craigs were in the hundreds. It was listed for $50 but when I went to pick it up, the lady said she was pretty sure she listed it for $40....not going to argue with that!
Here it is with the rest of the living room...or half of the living room at least. The camera angle makes it look much bigger than it is....
On to the big purchases! 9' x 12' big to be exact.
This is the softest rug of all time. EVER. It's like we have a big blanket on the floor.
I'm sure it will be about as easy to clean as a big blanket on the floor too but oh well, I love it. This rug and the next one were both purchased from Overstock.com which I had never ordered from before. I recommend it! Fast delivery and low prices.
First, I saw a similar rug at Crate & Barrel....for $1300...eek!
Then I posted a couple of weeks ago that I was going to buy this rug from Home Decorators Collection...for $849...better...but they also charged $187 in shipping! Total of $1036....ugh.
But then! I found this one on Overstock for $576! Aaaaand? Only $2.95 for shipping.
It's so nice to finally have a cozy rug in the living room! Now onto the dining room....
Before...
After...
I don't think I like it :(
It's a fun idea....but maybe for a teenagers bedroom? I'm going to leave it there for a couple days to be sure but I think this one's a no.
It's sold out on Overstock now but it was $288 with zero dollars for shipping (Overstock is awesome!!)
What do you think? Horrible? Beautiful? Cheesy?

Nothing wrong with liking brass tables. The only reason I don't prefer them is because I don't like the color of brass but I have seen places that pulled it off beautifully before. I'm sure you will rock it. :D
ReplyDeleteI think the rug in the dining room would work better if you bring some of the colors out with accessories - maybe some colorful frames on the wall or fun curtains. But as is, I agree it's not working.
Agreed! Maybe it just needs more around it...
DeleteSurprisingly enough I think I might love that rug.
ReplyDeleteYou want it? haha ;)
DeleteLindsay,
ReplyDeleteI like the table, but then I'm from the fifties--so maybe that says something.
I kinda of like the dining room rug, I think it's fun. But Ken would not like it, but no one ever accused him of having good taste.
Looks like you've been having fun. Nice job!
Jan
Thanks Jan! Definitely having fun :) Hanging drywall or shopping for decor...hmmmm
DeleteI love the brass, and I think the super geometric design saves it from feeling 1980's. It has a 70's glam feel, like I want to wear a dashiki and smoke clove cigarettes or whatever people did in the 1970's. (I also prefer yellow gold if it's done in a rich, bohemian style.)
ReplyDeleteI totally want that braided rug. The dining room rug looks nice, but I know what you mean. Your vintage table and chair set is to die for. I could see going with something more David Hicks-y. Hexagons or some other repeating geometric shape would be great in there. I love your house and your style! So inspirational. Our houses must be from the same year. 1956?
Thank you so much Beth!! We are totally on the same page. And yes, 1956!
DeleteLove the rugs. I really do. The one in the dining room is so different, how can you not love it? And brass is back? I had no idea! You really make it work!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Amy!
DeleteI actually love the rug! Add some fun accessories to the walls to pull out some more of the colors and it would look awesome! I'd say send it to me, but unfortunately my husband would never go for it :(
ReplyDeleteHaha I was so surprised that my husband was ok with such a vibrant rug but hated the throw pillows fabric(!?!?) Who knows :)
DeleteI love the table and the living room carpet so much! It looks like a giant comfy sweater on the floor.
ReplyDeleteI do like the carpet in the dining room. I think right now it looks like it's too much since most of the rest of the room is bare. I guess you can't necessarily keep it hoping to like it later though. And you are the one that has to live with it after all. Letting it stew for a few days is a good idea.
Yeah, I've discovered with things before that if I don't like them right away...I'm not going to like them later. But we'll see, adding some more stuff to the room might make a big difference.
DeleteYour new living room rug is beautiful and really grounds the whole room! For a minute i thought you got a new couch too, till I scrolled back up and saw it was the same couch, which looks great with the rug too! The new coffee table is a winner. I even like the dining room rug, it is bright and full of personality! Love the way the greens match on the chairs and rug!
ReplyDeleteDee Dee
Thanks! I agree the living room rug makes everything look fresh and bright :)
DeleteI lovee both rugs! The living room one looks very cozy and the dining room gives a much needed pop to the area. If the rest of the area is going to stay pretty neutral that rug will add a lot of interest to the space.
ReplyDelete{I loveee overstock too! You cannot beat their shipping. We got a couple things from there, and I'm sure we'll be ordering more hehe.}
And I reallyyyy don't like brass fixtures (aka - door knobs, weird chandeliers, etc.) but a table like that is hard not to love! The shape of it totally lends itself to modern design and it's perfectly acceptable to mix and match metals! Nice find!!
I agree with the door handles, ours are all old nasty, chipped brass that I can't wait to rip out. We have all brushed nickel in the kitchen so maybe we'll go with that.
DeleteP.S. For some reason I can't comment on your blog at work or from my iPhone!! :( So frustrating since you've been posting some AMAZING things. I have to find another way! haha
Wow! Great changes. I love the coffee table. I so agree that months ago I would have said "brass, bleck" but it is amazing what this world of blogs can do to change your opinions : ) I love the living room rug. I was in love with the one from Crate and Barrel too. Isn't overstock wonderful?! I like the dining room rug too. I'm seeing a striped drape with one of the rug colors (stripes on the brain!) and I think it could be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI actually really like the dining room rug! It's fun and colorful. And the living room is looking great. I am liking the brass =)
ReplyDeletelove the table. so glad i stumbled across your blog. love. definitely following. can't wait to read more. if you get a sec, I'd love if you'd check out mine. xo

Seriously the brass table is a huge score!!!!!!!!! Congrats! And I love the white rug, but agree with you on the other one. Maybe for a kids room.
ReplyDeleteTotally...it's already rolled up and ready to be returned :)
DeleteI love the chevron curtains, so chic! And that coffee table is pretty cool. Good find!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... are those curtains from Crate and Barrel? I am so crazy about those! I love the neutral but the fun chevron and really well made too! Adorbs :)
ReplyDeleteYes they are! They are great quality too, nice and heavy :)
DeleteI like the dining room rug! (I found your blog via my sister's blog baylorsays.blogspot.com when she posted about your headboard) I think it's really pretty if you tone down the rest of the stuff in the room. Keep the rest simple since the rug brings the pizazz. Pretty! But you are the one who has to like it!
