I've been talking writing a lot about my grand plans for making curtains out of sheets and reupholstering my Craigslist chairs and I would also like to sew roman shades for the dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Well....sadly this post will be no different. More talking about the plan and not actually sewing anything.
Thanks to my mom though, I feel like I'm one step closer to the actual "doing".
While my mom was in town two weeks ago helping me tile the kitchen backsplash, she brought over some Singer sewing books titled, Sewing Projects for the Home, Sewing for the Home and - you guessed it! - More Sewing for the Home. Copyright 1991, 1984 and 1987 respectively.
Now....my mom loaned me these books with the disclaimer that while the sewing techniques/tutorials are still good, I won't like how most of it looks since they're so outdated.
What...
You mean like this?
Nice.
Or this?
Mmmmmm.
The padded cornice.
Don't get me started on the upholstery section.
YES.
That looked good once!
And I'm sure it will look good again. Just not right now.
Needless to say it was fun looking through the books. It was even more fun recognizing things my mom had made through the years. The pages were still dogeared on the a padded headboard and cloud shade tutorials. Padded headboard + cloud shades = my room in the fourth grade = most awesome princess room ever!
Thanks mom!
There was some good in with the bad though. For example, I would like to make these for the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms.
And if I'm really feeling confident I will tackle this project.
I have minimal/beginner sewing experience...so this stuff will require some assistance. "Pin skirt to deck"??? What's a deck? We'll see how this goes...
*********update**********
In case you missed Monday's post, we moved upstairs last weekend.
...................It's cold upstairs...................
You guessed it.....(perfect timing Diana!).......I caved.
I turned on the heat.
And it was glorious.
Ed immediately said YOU LOSE!!! YOU OWE ME......SOMETHING. Apparently he hasn't decided what I have to do.... whatever he comes up with, I'm sure it's not as bad as sitting around shivering! ...I hope....

I come by way of Hazardous design and just love your blog! I'll stalk around for a bit, but I'm your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteLindsay, this comment is from Ed's Aunt Jan--I only click Anonymous, because I don't know what a URL is--well anyway, here's my comment(s)--the house is looking great, and the thing about the heat, tell Ed he already won on June 18, 2011 and he got his prize.
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the projects. I have so many in the works it's ridiculous. I feel like I'm getting buried by Christmas right now too. Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteI might have to make a fancy padded cornice...it's nice...
Uh oh...you'll have to let us know what he makes you do for caving on the heat. My 1 housemate turned it on one day and I went right behind her and turned it off. I fight dirty.
I have lots of grand ideas of all this furniture I got on Craigslist that I'm going to re-finish and curtains I want to sew...and of course, I have zero time to do it. Hmmmmmm...I'm definitely slacking as well! Maybe it'll all get done by the time next Summer rolls around haha.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I love all the rad upholstery! Lol. Good luck with your projects! I love sewing; I wish I had more time to do it. Thanks for visiting my blog; I look forward to reading more here! :)
